Fallen Earth Wiki

The Fallen Earth Wiki faces the gargantuan task of updating it’s content from pre-f2p data to the V2.0 reality. It’s a lot of work to edit more than 6000 articles or to add new ones, but the Open Book Society is chipping away the problem like the monks of old, one article at a time.

The wiki, like most http://wikia.com projects is the unofficial authoritative information source for everything Fallen Earth. The changes to the game with V2.0 made many articles obsolete and many facts had to be checked again. Which didn’t keep people from visiting the site, since it was still the best source of information about the game.

And it seems, if there was ever a hump, the wiki has gotten over it. The activity logs show constant changes and new articles, and it’s just a matter of time until everything is up-to-date again. Or as close as you can get.

The Help Channel

Posted by on Dec 10, 2011 in Fallen Earth, Guides | 0 comments

The one thing that sticks out when you enter the Fallen Earth game as a newbie is the help channel. Your chat window starts rolling with questions and answers almost immediately. And as somebody who’s monitored the help channel for a long time, there is no question left unasked and only CAPS LOCK is ignored. I dare say that the presence of the help channel was one of the things that kept the game alive. It made the new player feel welcome, and it’s been said on many occasions what a friendly community this game has.

The drawback of the help channel is the fact that in order to keep it functional, it has to be policed hard. Off-topic chatter or guild recruiting is usually quickly criticized and suppressed. Roleplaying has to be limited to other channels and even the use of foreign language is limited to a sentence or two stating that somebody is looking for fellow players from his country. At first this rule seems discriminatory, but it is the only way for the GMs to monitor the channel for content. The rule has indeed lead to a couple of couple of harassing statements, but even that could be stopped quickly.

The Fallen Earth webpage has a post with frequently asked questions here, but I want to expand on it with the experience of the first 10 days since F2P. I have however some secret (and now not so secret) objections about a help channel FAQ. It’s based on the tendency of the human nature to be to lazy to research and to read and adventurous enough to go out on their own and see what happens.

And here we are, enabling human nature, helping the lost adventurer. Stay tuned for an FAQ in the Guides section

Everquest II Grandfathered Characters

Posted by on Dec 9, 2011 in Current Games, Everquest II, News | 0 comments

After some discussion ensued among the F2P players over access to existing character with premium race/class combo, Everquest II producer Smokejumper announced this today:

*Every* character that was created before 12/06/2011 at 12:01 am will be grandfathered in without race or class restriction. This means that regardless of your membership level, you will be able to play any character created before 12/6 without paying for race- or class-pack unlocks.

For any player that previously subscribed to EQII Live servers, or as a Gold or Platinum member on EQ2X, we will also refund all the class/race pack purchases made after 12/06/2011 at 12:01 am and before the time of this posting (12/08/2011, 4:30pm) so that no one loses any SC due to this change.
